Walloped!

Team Sofeene: 5
Redbacks: 0

Venue: Turf City

Two teams on the opposite ends of the scale. On one end, a well established team with great organization, skill and workrate. On the other side, a team who is in the process of rebuilding and still trying to find their feet in a new division. The end result? A comprehensive 5-0 victory for last year’s morning league champions.

To our credit, we managed to keep Team Sofeene at bay for most parts of the first half. They had a goal disallowed for offside. Continuous pressure paid off as they score the opener late in the half.

It was a different story in the second half as the Spiders conceded two quick penalties, allowing our opponents to surge ahead. Desperate to score goals to get ourselves back into the game, we left ourselves exposed at the back. Team Sofeene was devastating in attack as they carved out chance after chance, scoring 2 more goals to sink the Spiders.

We know now how hard life will be like in the Premier Division. This is what we are here for, to compete and test ourselves against the very best the AFL has to offer. This is a learning curve that the team needs to undergo in order to become even better. All we can do now is look to the next game and strive for improvements.

Gone Begging

Posted by theredbacks on November 5, 2007

Buffallo United: 2
Redbacks FC: 1

Venue: Bukit Timah Pitch 2
Scorers: Ayyub

A game that we shouldn’t have lost. But that all football is all about we win  some and lost some.

Game started well for the spiders with 1 up in just 5 minutes into the game. Ayyub coolly finished a pass from Mok from the left. Buffallo United equalised in the run of play with a our defenders caught unguarded. Then disaster strucked as Fauzi tamely cleared the ball to the path of the opposing forward where he easily lobbed into the open goal. The first half ended 2-1 against the spiders.

After the a half time pep talk by our Manager Azam, the 2nd half started very bright for the spiders as we conjured up chance after chance, but most chance went begging. As the game continues spiders were clearly exhausted by waves of attack that we created as the opponent brought in 4 new legs in the fray which didn’t helped the Spiders cause.

The Buffaloes clearly relieved when the final whistle blows. Anyway it’s ok ,we’ll get them during the 2nd leg. Heads up guys.
