Got to Stop the Rot!

Posted by Kai on June 8, 2009

Redbacks: 3
Dirty Dozen: 5

Venue: MacPherson Sec Sch
Scorers: Nordin, Azhar, Jaz

With this defeat, the Spiders are entrenched at the foot of the table, the only team yet to taste victory this season. The defense is clearly struggling and the Redbacks are quickly learning that our opponents’ superlative finishing means that mistakes will be punished. Whenever Dirty Dozen created chances, they always looked like scoring and in this game, they found the back of the net 5 times.

Between the goals conceded, the Spiders tried to make it a contest, eager to stop our recent losing streak. Nordin equalized after Dirty Dozen scored the opener. He hit another masterful free kick into the bottom corner of the goal. Dirty Dozen scored immediately afterwards with Aki beaten at his near post. Azhar then stepped up and restored parity, taking advantage of some hesitant defending and literally forcing the ball into the goal.

Dirty Dozen nudged ahead just before half time. A cross from the left side was met with a karate-like kid, leaving Aki rooted to the spot. Harsh considering that we created a lot of chances in the first half. However, chances do not count for much if you do not take them. One goal behind, the team was very much in it and we were confident that we could get back into the game.

In the second half, the game was a more cagey affair. Neither team was willing to give anything away. Then, the Spiders drew level! A swift counter attack saw Mok receiving the ball on the left flank. Always capable of delivering superb crosses, our winger did his trick and Jaz was there to slot the ball into goal. It was just reward for the effort the team put in. Could we hold out?

Unfortunately, that goal just spurred Dirty Dozen to go for the win. They scored from another corner. It was amazing how the player could jump so high and direct his header downwards with enough power and accuracy to beat Aki and Bob at the same time. Not content on sitting back and letting the Spiders back into the game, they scored another goal for good measure.

Team (4-4-2): Aki, Kai, Sani, Bob, Aidil, Nordin, Azhar, Mok, Fai, Mikael, Irwan
Subs: William, Jaz, Raizal, Hidayat

In local Mafia terms, what they did was called “smash and grab” tactics. It’s amazing considering that our opponents who have not won all the while, played like as if they were leading the league. The quality of this division is exciting.

On the positive side of things, mathematically we may still get relegated to Division 4.That’s exciting because like Newcastle, which is too good to go down, let’s work on promotion, the first time around.Wahahaha.

Ability wise,as always emphasized by Capt,we are on par with all the team in the division.Belief wise,we are still a Third World team. From outside, the body languages displayed by all was akin to the zombies I shoot in Resident Evil 5.How to cure the mental belief?A break overseas maybe.A head massage maybe.A chalet maybe.A knock maybe.

There is no shame in losing our past games because,we played good but the opponents did better.Just look at our statistics in the league. We’ve never failed to score. And we almost always equalize and comeback, only to lose by a single goal. Why does this happen?Physical tirendness that leads to mental defocus.

In the coming weeks,we’ll be depleted by injuries and commitments of players. It’s up to the rest of us,silent Spiders reading this to make yourselves count! All we need is an extra 10% in total efforts for our coming games,to see a marked improvement, like how we pin our last opponents in the second half.

7 more games to go babes.(and more if we progress through the cup ties).Let’s start preparing to go to war.And that means, prepare physically and mentally.

Because, the other teams have had their full with us.Let’s give them our desserts from now.As what Leonidas of 300 fame said,
    “Tonight,we shall dine in HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Too bad we to succumb to our 5th straight defeat. We did ever so well as a team, yet it’s not enough to win, that how challenging this season’s div 3. Dirty Dozen is a technically good team yet this is their first win.

I’m sure our time will come, when? When we tighten up our defence, that’s all. Don’t give up, press on. We’ll meeting New Eastroid a Div 2 team, the time is NOW, can?
