Our History
At the end of 2005, a man named Nahar Shariff decided to form a social football team. He gathered his friends, mostly made up of teachers, and together, they formed a motley crue of footballers. The team was named Torpedoes FC at first. Our first set of jerseys were supposed to be maroon in colour but due to an error by the vendor, we got red jerseys instead. Nahar then asked the team to come up with a new name for the team. Kai came up with the name of Northern Redbacks Football Club. Since the team was based in Admiralty Secondary School and we were wearing red, the name made perfect sense. The Redback Spider was installed as the team’s mascot, keeping with the conventions of local S-League clubs that used animals to differentiate from one another. We figured that if the team ever became an S-League side, we would be aesthetically ready!
A few years later, administrative problems plagued the team and forced us to move out of our home ground. Down but definitely not out, we re-invented ourselves, striving to “bring the Redbacks’ brand of football to fields all over the island” – as uttered by “Iron Man” himself, Abang Sani. With no fixed geographical location to call home, the name Northern was dropped from the team, thus we are now Redbacks Football Club.

Our jerseys over the years...
One of the highlights of the team has been our journeys to play matches across the border. Since our first foray into foreign soil in our first year of inception, we strive to make sure that we travel overseas at least once a year. Our mission: to bring goodwill to our neighbouring friends through football and to bond together as a team as a band of brothers. It is a yearly event not to be missed, enjoyed by players and family members alike.
