Redbacks ended our AFL campaign with a 3-3 draw against Recreativo. We did well to claw back into the game after going two goals down in the first half. Aiman produced some sizzling finishing to record a hat-trick to give the Spiders a slender lead. Unfortunately it was not meant to be as Recreativo scored an equalizer after some slack defending. Torrential rain played its part as the referee was forced to call off the game with about 15 minutes remaining. In the end, both teams had to settle for a draw.

The result left the Redbacks in second position but that might not last for long. Our closest rivals, Recreativo and Damai will be looking to take advantage of their games in hand to usurp the top three position in the league alongside champions-elect Knights FC. It is up to us now to reflect on our performances in a campaign riddled with too many goals conceded. Hopefully we will look to put that right in the coming months as we continue to develop as a team.

Congratulations to Aiman for netting 18 goals in just 14 games to finish as the team’s top scorer. Whether he is the league’s topscorer remains to be seen. His closest rival, William Ng of Knights FC has 16 goals to his name with still 3 more games left. We wish Aiman all the best and hope he nabs the award. Special mention also goes to 4 players who have been ever-present during the AFL campaign. Azhar, Aiman, Kai and Zaini featured in all 14 games, setting examples for the rest of the team to follow.

Unfortunately, another Spider has succumbed to the latest injury jinx. Jaz suffered a serious knee injury (he is considering retiring) and he joins Azam, Irwan and Sani on the treatment table. We wish all the players a speedy recovery and hope to see all of you kicking once again.
